Drawing Room by Rich Stapleton, The Cold Press

Drawing Room was a three-year collaborative project I worked on with photographer Rich Stapleton while at The Modern House, in which we told the story of some of the UK’s most thoughtfully designed living spaces. These included food writer Nigel Slater’s townhouse, fashion retailer Isabel Ettedgui’s Tudor cottage, architect John Pawson’s Oxfordshire retreat, as well as landmark modernist homes.

The project culminated in an exhibition at The Cold Press Gallery, housed in a Huguenot townhouse in London’s historic Spitalfields area. The gallery was selected because it embodies many of the themes Rich explored in the project, including a sensitivity to light and shadow, texture, patina, nature and the beauty of objects.

Alongside Rich’s photographs, original ceramic pieces by his friend, Nancy Kwon, were shown. The Los Angeles-based artist made a series of works, including painted tiles and small sculptures, that responded to the architectural and historical context of The Cold Press. Accompanying the exhibition was a 48-page book, designed in-house.

I co-curated the project with Rich, oversaw the exhibition and book and delivered storytelling across editorial, video and social channels.
